I spent this week talking with Pamela and Cassie — two of the many reasons that we’re fighting for solar in Nevada.
Pamela is a long-time resident and now Mayor Pro Tem for the City of North Las Vegas. She’s so committed to her community that she also continues to serve as assistant principal in the Clark County School District, where she has dedicated the past 31 years to education in Southern Nevada. Pamela and her husband decided to install solar two years ago, putting Nevada’s plentiful sunshine to work to lower energy bills and support local jobs.
Cassie and her husband own Gymcats, a small business in Henderson that teaches gymnastic and dance to children of all ages. Every week, they touch the lives of thousands of kids, helping them grow stronger and shine. Gymcats is helping their community shine too with a solar rooftop that produces affordable homegrown energy and reduces harmful pollution.
Solar is helping Nevadans like Pamela and Cassie take charge of their energy bills, build healthier communities, and make Nevada a leader in our new energy economy — and we need your help to keep it that way!
Nevada placed a cap of 235MW on net metered solar systems. Nevada hit that cap in August 2015 and now regulators at the PUCN are required by the state legislature to adopt a new net metering tariff by the end of the year. As part of this process, NV Energy is trying to protect its monopoly on power by adding new fees and making solar a bad deal for its customers. Before the end of the year, the PUCN will decide whether to accept the big utility’s proposal or stand strong for Nevada solar.
We can’t let corporate greed keep Nevadans from going solar. Let’s stand up to tell the PUCN that net metering is good for Nevada schools, businesses, and families. Here’s what you can do …
1) Sign the Petition
2) Show up at the PUCN Open Meeting on November 16 to provide public comment in support of solar
3) Share Pamela and Cassie’s #WeAreSolar video on social media to help spread the word.
Together we can do this!
Keep NV Solar Shining! #WeAreSolar
